Imperial Wharf is a proposed railway station in Chelsea in west London, on the West London Line (WLL) from Clapham Junction to Willesden Junction. The station will be between West Brompton and Clapham Junction stations.
The station takes its name from a nearby residential development. The station will be in Sands End where the WLL crosses Townmead Road. It will be constructed in conjunction with the Imperial Wharf redevelopment of a brown field, former industrial site.
Although it has begun appearing on some of the newest maps of the rail network and on the latest Geographers A-Z maps and was at one time due to open in summer 2005, as of March 2007 no construction has taken place, and no announcement has been made about its future.
In 2005, the estimated cost was £3 million, of which £1.7 million is due to be provided by St. George, the developer of the Imperial Wharf site, leaving a funding shortfall of £1.3 million.[1] The remaining sum will only be paid by the house-builder Circadian if an 800-apartment project gets the go-ahead following the recent Public Inquiry[citation needed].
If opened before November 2007 the station will first be served by Silverlink trains but, from November 2007, Silverlink services will be replaced by the new London Overground operation.
