IMEA
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Illinois Music Educators Association (IMEA) is a State-funded professional organization aiming to promote lifelong musical education and to provide leadership for music education in Illinois.
Any orchestra or band instrument can be used in an audition for IMEA. Musicians must participate in their school music program. Even if an audition is successful, they will be thrown out if this is not the case.
Illinois is divided into nine districts. A certain number of participants are chosen to go to State from each district.
The various high school music teachers in the districts are shuffled within the district to serve as judges.
[edit] Four orchestra pieces are rotated every four years for audition and performance:
- Brahms's Academic Festival Overture (2006-07)
- Wagner's Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg (2007-08)
- Finale from Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 4 (2008-09)
- Glinka's Russlan and Ludmilla (2009-10)
