[edit] Image Stacking Template
This template can be used to stack images on the right side of the article text and keep them in line.
[edit] Parameters
{{{1}}} is the width of the box in pixels. Use the number only (e.g. 250) and do not put “px” after the number. Make the box about 20 px wider than the widest picture in the stack. Thumbs without an image width specification are by default 180px wide, so the surrounding box should be 200px wide.
{{{2}}} is simply the list of images, in normal Wikipedia format.
Note: Changing the size of the box will not resize the images. The box must be wide enough to accommodate the images.

[edit] Template misuse
This template should really only be used in cases where there is a series of images that logically should be placed in a column. It is not for putting any and all images in an article in a column. I think that this template is being misused more than it is used properly, so I'll nominate it for deletion once I've cleaned up the articles that use it. (It's not that hard just to manually code a table when this template would actually be needed). ~MDD4696 03:10, 6 March 2006 (UTC)
- OK, so I've gone through all the uses of this template and made changes where I thought necessary. There were a few good articles that demonstrate proper use of this template, such as Google logo and Nelson hold, but a few were just using this template to stack an image gallery.
- This template does have limited use, so I have decided against nominating it for a TfD, but please make sure that when you use this template, it's for images that should be logically grouped together. If you want to stack unrelated images, just list them. Using this template just to make a stack is cumbersome and error-prone. ~MDD4696 04:36, 8 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Layout problems in Safari, Firefox
This template seems to work fine in the examples above, but in Olimpiysky Sport Complex, where it's used for both right and left columns, it messes up the layout in Safari 2.0.4:
- No matter how much I resize the window and reload the page, there is always a horizontal scroll bar at the bottom and the right-stacked images stick out into the page body's right margin by about 20px, with the their rightmost 10px outside the window unless I scroll.
- The first few letters of the text which flows around the left-stacked images is obscured by them, rendering it pretty much unreadable.
These problems don't appear in Firefox/Mac, but in both Firefox and Safari:
- The left image stack has a one-line top margin, and doesn't align with the top of the text it is next to.
I'll remove the template for now, but you can see the problems I describe in this revision of the article. —Michael Z. 2006-08-11 02:39 Z
[edit] Internet Explorer
In IE/Mac text does not flow alongside the box, the box comes first, then the content that should flow around it. See this version of Expressionism. And, yes, I know few people use IE/Mac and MS no longer develops it, but someone reported the problem on the Expressionism talk page, and it's very likely they were using IE/Windows.
