Tomoaki Imakuni, better known as "Imakuni?" (イマクニ？, "Imakuni?"^?), is a strange Japanese musical artist. He is/was part of the musical group Suzukisan (which is Japanese for Three Part or Three Person), who are responsible for some of the music for the Japanese Pocket Monsters television series. He also created the artwork for several cards for the Pocket Monsters Trading Card Game. Imakuni? appears throughout various Pocket Monsters merchandise, and is a main opponent in the Pokémon Trading Card video game.

Over the years, he has several costumes, all which have round, Mickey Mouse—like ears.

Round ears, black costume with "イマクニ？" embroidered on the front. [1996–early 2000s]
Curly round ears, black costume with "イマクニ？" on an LCD screen on the front of his costume. This costume had the LCD screen on the front change to match what Pokémon he was saying in Pokémon ierukaNEO?
Round curly ears, silver costume with "イマクニ？" on the front of his costume. He looks like he is wearing a shaggy bathroom rug on his chest and back.

"Imakuni?" does not mean "Mouse Man," as reported by Beckett and Pojo. Imakuni?'s full name is Tomoaki Imakuni.

Imakuni? is not gay or a cross-dresser, despite a rumor in a Japanese magazine, although he was once pictured in a dress for a Japanese magazine.

[edit] Pokémon Trading Card Game

Imakuni? appears as an enemy in the Pokémon Trading Card Game game for the Game Boy Color. You can find him by talking to a girl in the Water Club. Then, Imakuni? will begin to randomly appear in the non-dueling sections of clubs. You can tell if Imakuni is in the same room you are because a strange, offbeat music will begin to play. When you speak to Imakuni?, he will respond by saying;

"Huh? W...Who are you? Who? Me? You don't know who I am? I am the super musical star, Imakuni?! I'll sing the Pokérap - you dance! (musical note) La Di Da La Di Da La Di Da La Di Da... HEY! MOVE THOSE FEET! What? Cards? You want to duel me? OK, but if I win, you dance!"

After you agree to duel Imakuni?, He responds,

"OK, A 1 - Match duel with 6 prizes! ...Whatever that means.."

His deck name is then announced as the Strange Lifeform Imakuni? Imakuni? Deck His Pokémon are of the Normal, Psychic, and Water types. After defeating Imakuni?, He says,

"Hey! You're pretty good! I'll give you this booster pack. So don't tell anyone I lost, OK?"

You then receive 4 booster packs: 1 each of Colloseum, Evolution, Mystery, and Laboratory. After beating Imakuni? the third or sixth time, he will give you a promotional card called Imakuni?. The text on it reads as follows:

Your active Pokémon is now confused. Imakuni wants you to play him as your active Pokémon. But you can't. A mysterious creature not listed in the Pokédex. He asks kids around the world: "Who is cuter - Pikachu or me?"

After you have received something for beating Imakuni?, he will say to you,

"In both cards and dance, soul and rhythm are the secret. Hey! That sounds pretty cool! Maybe I'll become a poet!"

He will then leave the room.
