Imagotaria downsi Mitchell, 1968 |
Imagotaria downsi is an extinct species of walrus.
The 1,80 m (6 ft) long creature looked little like a modern walrus- with its slender body it closely resembled a sea lion. Like the two extant walrus species Imagotaria had tusks, but these were short. Also, while modern walruses have molars that are specialized for eating shellfish, Imagotaria's were hardly adapted for this, indicating it probably ate fish in addition to shellfish.
