[edit] Biography
Ilse de Lange started her career at the age of 8 as a lip sinking-artist, in which she won several contests. After she switched over to a live repertoire, she drew attention, through regional and national talentshows, in Hilversum (the Dutch city where all the tv-programs are shot). It helped her to get some live-performances on national television. With guitarist Joop Liefland she formed a duo. Together with him she was introduced into country music.
[edit] 1998: World Of Hurt
In 1994 Ilse preformed at the Dutch Country Music Awards. Despite positive reviews nothing happened with her career. She did get in touch with representatives of big recordlabel Warner Music but it took several years of negotiation before Warner Music decided to offer Ilse a contract. In 1996 de Lange joined the popgroup Wij where she and the group brought out a single "De Oorlog Meegemaakt" ("Experienced The War") but didn't chart in the Dutch Top 40. In 1998, when she was a member of the group Cash On Delivery, she left to Nashville, U.S. to record her debut album "World Of Hurt" together with topproducer Barry Beckett. Because she recorded her album in the capital of country music in the world she became known in the Netherlands. Her album became a big success in her home country, and hr album sold 450,000 copies in total. In Holland Ilse received a TMF Award and a Edison Award for her musical success in 1999.
[edit] 1999: Dear John
In 1999 Ilse brought out a live album called: "Dear John". A registration of a mini tour she did several months in the year of 1999, and in which she covered a few songs of John Hiatt. The album went platinum in the Netherlands (80,000). Almost a year Ilse kept her career on hold after releasing this album
[edit] 2000: Livin' On Love
In mid 2000 the first rumors were known about the new record. In October Ilse released her first single "Livin' On Love" from the same titled album that was released in November. Her music became more and more Pop/Rock and the country music wasn't overruled on the album. The album, although big promotion, couldn't compete with the success of he first record, it peaked at #5, but still went platinum.
In 2001 Ilse started her "Livin' On Love" Tour and preformed in a lot of theaters an concert halls through her home country. Meanwhile a big effort was taken to promote a breakthrough in America. "World Of Hurt" was planned to be released in the States, but record labels in America thought the album was to old to be released. Ilse set hope on the release of "Livin' On Love" but the album wasn't released with unknown reasons, but rumors are said that the American label didn't like the sound of the album. Because of the trouble she had in America, Ilse decided to break all cords with the States and focus more on her career in the BeNeLux.
She won an Edison Award for best Dutch artist in 2000. Because of all the business problems the singer became physical tired. During a performance in Paradiso (Amsterdam) she got trouble with her voice and told emotionally to the fans in the hall that she couldn't persuade the performance. On doctors advice she had to take a few weeks rest. Several months later she preformed at Parkpop.
[edit] 2003: Clean Up
In March of 2002 DeLange left with her partner Bart Vergoossen for 9 months to America to work on a new album. During the recording sessions Ilse had her own creative role in her music. In April 2003 she released her third studio album titled "Clean Up". A record with a pop/rock sound and with a lot of autobiographic lyrics, all written by Ilse herself. Ilse was satisfied with the result and it despite the new sound the album became a big success. She also gave a contribution to the charity foundation War Child. During a concert fo Warchild (Friends Of Warchild) DeLange preformed a song together with Trijntje Oosterhuis and Jacqueline Govaert of Krezip of The Beatles. In October Ilse released a compilation album called: "Here I Am - 1998/2003". The album went Platinum and contained DeLange best work so far.
[edit] 2006: The Great Escape
In the beginning of 2004 Warner Music stopped the contracts of all Dutch artist it had signed. Also like the band Krezip. Very shortly after this she received again an Edison Awad for "Clean Up". In April 2004 she collaborated on a single with Italian singer Zucchero. The song was called "Blue" and was a small hit in the Netherlands. About a new record deal was nothing known, but Ilse stated that she was working on her future. In the end of 2005 DeLange went on tour (without a new album) and every concert was sold out. Meanwhile in America she world together with top producer Patrick Leonard on a new album. It was called "The Great Escape" and was released on June 16, 2006.
