[edit] Personnal Life
Born October 4, 1935 Hamamönü,Ankara Turkey. His father Haşim Cavcav had 2 wifes and 17 kids, father Cavcav had a flour mill in Mamak and a small bakery shop. Because of the large population in the house their finances were never on the strong side. İlhan Cavcav dedicided to drop out of school at age of 14 and started to work with his father as a cashier in the mill. In 1960, he formed his own business and 1969 he opened his own more advanced flour mill in Ankara (Ankara Un Sanayii).

At age of 16 he started to play football and his first team was a local outfit Mamak Maske Spor. When he was 19 he was transferred to another Ankara team PTT Spor. (Now, Türk Telekomspor). According to Mr. Cavcav himself PTT forced him to play professional and he was unable to due to his work at the flour mill with his father. Unexpected events and he ends up with another local team Bahçeli Gençlik Spor which he was with them for a short time due to his personnal problems with the team. In short, he ended his football player career in age of 19 and years later return to football as a chairman.

His first trial as a chairman was local Ankara team Hacettepe Kulübü in 1976. After Hacettepe relegated in same season, he resigned from his position. 1977 he serves under Yahya Demirel as a board member in his current club Gençlerbirliği. In 1978's election he became the chairman for Gençlerbirliği when the team was in Turkish Third League. Same year Turkish Football federation merged second and third League. 1979 Gençlerbirliği secured his place in promotion to Turkish first league. Since then team became Superleague's regular.

- In 1978 Gençlerbirliği S.K. had no training facilities and now team has one of the largest youth program in Turkey and 50 acre tranning facilities in Bestepe, Ankara. ( Beştepe İlhan Cavcav Tesisleri)
- He has been the chairman for the team non-stop for 27 years.

- İlhan Cavcav has 2 sons and both are serving in the current Gençlerbirliği board.
- He visited African nations numerous times himself for football talent scouting.
- Gençlerbirliği S.K. had 22 chairmans in 54 years and for 29 years one chairman.
