Wikiproject Magic: The Gathering is dedicated to improving the quality of articles relating to the trading card game Magic: The Gathering. The scope of the project is every aspect of the game, including, but not limited to, sets, storylines, famous players, and Category:Magic: The Gathering computer and video games. This does not include articles for specific cards, as Wikipedia is not an instruction manual. Game concepts may be alluded to, but the articles must be accessible to the average Wikipedia user.

[edit] Guidelines

The following are the article guidelines:

  • Should an article page with the same name already be in use, suffix the page with "(Magic: The Gathering)".

[edit] Set pages

The following style should be used with the set pages:

[edit] Introduction

Onslaught
Expansion symbol "Morph" creature
Release date October 2002
Mechanics Creature types
Keywords Morph, Cycling
Size 350 cards
Expansion code ONS
Development codename Manny
Sets in Onslaught Block
Onslaught Legions Scourge
Magic: The Gathering
Chronology
Judgment Onslaught Legions

The introduction should be clear and concise, not more than two or three sentences, introducing the reader to the subject. The introduction should include the set's name, when it was released, and a referral to the main page. The page title is bolded, as normal, but also italicized.

[edit] Set History

This section outlines the history of the set, including firsts, changes from previous sets, and irregularities/unusual features of the set (including printing and distribution errors.)

[edit] Storyline

This section outlines the storylines that the set goes through. Include the major characters and the overall impression of the story. Don't include spoilers unless absolutely necessary. (This section can be omitted from Core Sets, which don't have a storyline.)

[edit] Mechanics and Keywords

This section introduces any new and returning keywords of the set. It also outlines interesting new mechanics (such as "pitch spells", "man-lands", and the Snow theme).

[edit] Notable cards

This section gives us a breakdown of approximately five to ten cards from the set, in very general terms. Include links to the cards in Gatherer.

[edit] External links

This section will have Wizards' official page of the set, as well as any other webpages worth mentioning.

[edit] Templates

If the set is part of a block, use Template:Infobox mtgblockset as shown above; otherwise, use Template:Infobox mtgnonblockset. There is currently no set guideline for the the color in the template; suggestions include the color of the set's packs (as long as the color is not too dark for readability purposes).

Use Template:mtgsets at the bottom of the page.

[edit] Categories

By using Template:mtgsets above, the page is automatically placed in Category:Magic: The Gathering sets. No other categories are needed.

[edit] Other pages

Other pages don't have a guideline set by this WP. For storyline pages, novels, and other pages with spoilers, use the guidelines for WikiProject Books. For players and other important people, use the guidelines for WikiProject Biography. For other pages, use your intuition, but remember that Wikipedia is not a game guide.
