Il corsaro (The Corsair) is an opera in three acts by Giuseppe Verdi, from a libretto by Francesco Maria Piave, based on Lord Byron's poem The Corsair. First performance: Teatro Grande, Trieste, October 25, 1848.

The Australian premiere of the work was given on Saturday 11th November 2006, by Melbourne City Opera, at the Melba Hall in a concert performance. The cast were: Gulnara, Suzanne Donald; Medora, Suzanne Shakespeare; Corrado, Joseph Talia; Seid, Manfred Polhenz; Gianni, Lucio Coceani. The orchestra and chorus were directed by Erich Fackert.
