Il barbiere di Siviglia (Paisiello)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Il barbiere di Siviglia, ovvero La precauzione inutile (The Barber of Seville, or The Useless Precaution) is a comic opera by Giovanni Paisiello, first performed on 26 September 1782 at the Imperial Court, Saint Petersburg. The libretto, by an anonymous author, is based on the play by Beaumarchais. Though Paisiello's biggest success, the work was eventually eclipsed by Rossini's 1816 opera The Barber of Seville.
