River IJssel forks off the Nether Rhine just before the city of Arnhem (bottom center of image), flows past the towns and cities of Rheden (left), Doesburg (right), Dieren (left), Zutphen (right), Deventer (right), (Zwolle, right — historically not on the IJssel but the Zwarte Water river, although its suburbs have reached the IJssel), and Kampen (left), and discharges itself through a small delta (branches: Keteldiep, Kattendiep, Noorddiep, Ganzendiep, Goot) into the IJsselmeer (Lake IJssel, formerly the Zuiderzee). The large green area in the centre of the image is the Veluwe forest, a National Park.
