If You Give A Mouse A Cookie (ISBN 0-06-024586-7) is the title of a 1985 book illustrated by Felicia Bond. It is the first book written by Laura Numeroff, and is generally considered her magnum opus. Its plot deals with a mouse that is given a cookie, in return demanding ever-greater gifts, much like in There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed A Fly. The book was so popular that inspired the If You Give A series. The main character of this story, Mouse, appears in three others: If You Take A Mouse To The Movies, If You Take A Mouse To School, and The Best Mouse Cookie.
