Sultan Idris Al-Mutawakkil Alallahi Shah was the sultan of the Malaysian state of Perak from 1963 to 1984. The State Mosque is named after him.
[edit] Early life
He was born on 17 August 1924 in Kuala Kangsar, Perak. He was educated at Clifford School, Kuala Kangsar and later furthered his studies at the Malay College Kuala Kangsar. He was made Raja Di Hilir in 1933, succeeding the late Raja Sir Chulan Ibni Almarhum Sultan Abdullah Muhammad Shah II who died that year. He was appointed Raja Bendahara in October 1938 upon the demise of his father, Sultan Iskandar Shah Ibni Almarhum Sultan Idris Rahmatullah Shah. Ten years later, on 29 March 1948, the then Sultan of Perak - Sultan Abdul Aziz Al-Mutasim Billah Shah Ibni Almarhum Raja Muda Musa died and Raja Idris Shah was made Raja Muda by his cousin, the new Sultan of Perak - Sultan Yusuf Izzuddin Shah Ibni Almarhum Sultan Abdul Jalil Radziallah Shah.

Finally, upon the death of Sultan Yusuf on 5 January 1963, he was appointed as the 33rd Sultan of Perak with the reigning title - Sultan Idris Al-Mutawakkil Alallahi Shah Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar Shah Kadassallah.
[edit] Death & Succession
After reigning about twenty years, on 31 January 1984, Sultan Idris Shah II died suddenly in Lumut, Perak during royal dinner ceremony with statesmen and other people. He was succeeded by Sultan Azlan Shah upon his death. His funeral took place on the 3rd of February 1984 and he was buried at the Al-Ghufran Royal Cemetery, Bukit Chandan, Kuala Kangsar, Perak.
