IDkings is a British based firm who sell fake or novelty plastic ID cards through a website and mail order catalogue. These cards can have any details printed onto them, although this is commonly limited to a photograph of the applicant, their name, date of birth and place of education[1]. No checks are performed to verify that the details provided are correct, indeed IDkings make a point of saying that customers can have any details they want printed on the cards, even if they are not true[2].
This opens up the possibility that the cards may be misused as false identification, either of name or age[3]. To get around this possible misuse, IDkings, like other firms in the industry use a legal loophole whereby customers agree to a disclaimer[4] which states that they will not misuse the cards. This then puts the legal onus on the customer not to misuse the otherwise legal card. In addition they avoid copyright and trademark infringements by not producing cards with designs that are copies, or too closely replicate authentic cards such as driver's licenses. Although the cards may appear very similar, for instance in layout and colour, they are not direct copies and use different names and are therefore legal.
