Idah

Idah is a town in Kogi State, Nigeria, on the eastern bank of the Niger River in the middle belt region of Nigeria. It is a town rich in cultural heritage and is the headquarters of the Igala Kingdom, whose traditional ruler, the Attah of Igala, is Alhaji Aliyu Obaje(GCFR).

Idah, an old river port, lies on the eastern bank of the river Niger on latitude 7* 5` North and Longitude 5* 45` East. It has commercial routes on the river Niger linking Lokoja (Kogi state capital) to the North of the country and Onitsha (Anambra state) to the South.

The climate in the area as well the peace-loving and friendly nature of the Idah people provide a conducive environment for academic pursuits and excellence. Its population is primarily Igala.

Idah hosts a federal polytechnic. The prestigious Federal Government College Ugwolawo is also within the periphery of Idah. Idah is a major food base of Kogi State and the natural capital of the Igala kingdom.
