Ida Scudder School is situated in Virudampet, Vellore, Tamil Nadu.
It is named after the medical missionary, Ida Sophia Scudder, who came to Vellore and set up the Christian Medical College. The school was started in 1969 by a group of faculty of the Christian Medical College, when there were no decent schools in Vellore. The initial capital for this venture was collected by these worthies, by giving a month's salary. Some of the initial salaries were also paid by some of the parents.
Today the school is one of the best in Vellore, if not one of the better ICSE Schools in India. Students who come out have one major difference as compared to other school products- self confidence. Scudder school stresses on education in the Spirit of Christ. The school has produced students of great caliber. Some of the best events around the year include the annual sports day march past, the Variety entertainment show, and the Christmas program.
The principal, Mrs Helen Sudarshanam, has been serving for around a year, in response to the retirement of the previous principal Mr M.J Samuel.
The school has around 1500 students, making it one of the largest in Vellore.
Vellore is a town with One of India's finest Medical College, Christian Medical College and one of the better Engineering colleges, Vellore Institute of Technology. Possibly this is the reason that this school seems to produce a large number of doctors and engineers.
