Ida Barlow (nee Leathers) was a character in the British soap opera Coronation Street. She was played by Noel Dyson. Ida was married to postman Frank Barlow and they had two sons Ken and David. Ken later became a teacher and David a footballer. Ida was a caring, "saintly" woman. When her elderly mother Nancey grew ill she had Nancey come and live with her family. Ida worked in the kitchen of the Imperial Hotel. Tragically, Ida was killed on 11 September 1961 after being struck by a bus while walking home from work. Her funeral episode (aired 12 September 1961) attracted 15.6 million viewers, the most watched episode of Coronation Street up to that time.[citation needed]
