Ida B.

Ida B: . . . and Her Plans to Maximize Fun, Avoid Disaster, and (Possibly) Save the World (Greenwillow; 1st edition August 17, 2004, ISBN-10: 0060730242, ISBN-13: 978-0060730246) is a children's novel written by Katherine Hannigan for 4th-5th grade students about a girl who lives on an apple orchard. Ida believes that she has a special connection with the trees in this orchard; that she can talk to her. In the book, Ida does actually have conversations with trees, but it is implied that she has a connection with nature that allows her to know what the trees are thinking and respond accordingly. Her mom her diagnosed with cancer, and the family must sell a portion of their orchard in order to pay for chemo. Also, Ida was homeschooled and now must go back to her local school which she hates.But yet somtimes she just loves it and yet she still seems to have the urge to burn it and tear it down everytime she thinks about it

Ida B. is Katherine Hannigan's debut novel. She is famous for using voice in her story, and for well developed characters. She also uses unique and noncliched metaphors.
