Ichabodcraniosaurus
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Ichabodcraniosaurus" is the informal name (nomen nudum) given to an as yet undescribed genus of dinosaur from Mongolia. The discoverers, Novell and Perle, coined the name in honor of Ichabod Crane, from "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow". The specimen was missing only its skull. A skull that was later referred to "Ichabodcraniosaurus" does not belong to it.
It was a dromaeosaur similar to Velociraptor, and lived during the Late Cretaceous. The specimen is catalogued as specimen number IGM 100/980.
Mark Norell later wrote that the name came about when, after days of excavating the fossils, they realized the specimen was only missing its head. "Ichabodcraniosaurus" is one of several dinosaurs which have been given humorous names. See also Irritator.
