[edit] Welcome from Redwolf24

Welcome!

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. We as a community are glad to have you and thank you for creating a user account! Here are a few good links for newcomers:

Yes some of the links appear a bit boring at first, but they are VERY helpful if you ever take the time to read them.

Remember to place any articles you create into a category so we don't get orphans.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, please be sure to sign your name on Talk and vote pages using four tildes (~~~~) to produce your name and the current date, or three tildes (~~~) for just your name. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome.

P.S. I like messages :-P

[edit] IPA transliterations

Hi, they look pretty good. One thing to keep in mind though is that only l, n, and m can be syllabic (with the little line under them). k and p are not syllabic in English; instead there's a shwa before them. --Angr (t·c) 05:14, 20 December 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for your additions of IPA stuff. I fixed an extra ] you left in the Pasco, Washington article, but I'm wondering what the double { brackets are around the IPA pronunciation you put in. It looks like standard coding for a template, but it seems to not work as one. Care to clue in a noob? Alexlockhart 11:25, 20 December 2005 (UTC)

  • The template is the IPA template. It formats the text so it shows clearly in Internet Explorer. You can see the markup at Wikipedia: Manual of Style (pronunciation). the iBook of the Revolution 22:27, 20 December 2005 (UTC)
    • Wow, cool! I didn't notice the problem since I use Firefox, but the manual you linked to showed me how bad it would look in IE and what a good workaround the IPA template is. I'm something of an amatuer linguist, so it's neat to see WP providing so well for a good pronunciation scheme, and I'll start adding IPA stuff to articles also. [edit] lowercase

Hi! Just wanted to let you know that {{lowercase}} would probably work better for you than {{wrongtitle}}. Dread Lord CyberSkull ✎☠ 02:33, 2 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Small bunchofgrapes

Welcome to wikipedia and have fun editing, you have a good mentor David D. (Talk) 05:07, 5 January 2006 (UTC)

  • Thanks, though I have been here longer - I just have a little less time for here. the iBook of the Revolution 19:57, 5 January 2006 (UTC)
    • That's true; he's an old hand, but lacks a singlemined obsessional personality like myself. Regarding Japan, it looks more like a content dispute than vandalism to me in the most recent set of anon edits (though I might not have looked at the right diffs): be careful of the term "vandalism" - it has a very narrow definition around here. —Bunchofgrapes (talk) 15:58, 6 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Unsigned

{{unsigned|User|date}} or {{unsigned2|date|user}} ... unsigned2 is a little easier because that's the same order as shown in the history list. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Bunchofgrapes (talkcontribs) 22:31, 21 January 2006 (UTC) (UTC) :-)

[edit] Wikimedia Canada

Hi there! I'd like to invite you to explore Wikimedia Canada, and create a list of people interested in forming a local chapter for our nation. A local chapter will help promote and improve the organization, within our great nation. We'd also like to encourage everyone to suggest projects for our national chapter to participate in. Hope to see you there!--DarkEvil 17:11, 20 January 2006 (UTC)

ca.wikipedia.org, eh? —Bunchofgrapes (talk) 03:43, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] A Wee Bit of Irish

Hello iBook, I was just browsing through wikipedia and I stumbled across your userpage, and noticed your interest in Irish Gaelic. So I thought I'd give you a free breakdown of your userbox on the subject!

Níl Gaeilge ag an úsáideoir seo, nó is beag atá sí aige. Is not Irish at the user this or is little that is at him. This user does not know Irish, or knows a little.

Níl = is not Gaeilge = Irish ag = at an = the úsáideoir = user seo = this nó = or is = is beag = little atá = that is sí = it aige = at him

And if you want to know how to pronounce (as if it were in English...) Nyeel Gayle-ge ag an oosa-jer shaw, naw is bag a-taw she egg-eh

Maybe you know all this already, but as the old saying goes "learn again to never forget", or did I just make that up. Sounds good anyway!. Slán Brian 22:32, 15 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] New Wiki

Hi, I'm looking for people who could be interested in a wiki about depression. I see you mention it on your user page so I wondered if you might want to contribute. The wiki is one of the many at Wikicities, a project started by Jimbo and Angela. I'm hoping it will be a real resource for people affected by depression. If you want to have a look, it's at http://depression.wikicities.com . I see you may be mostly away from Wikipedia at the moment, but perhaps you could call in when you are back. Thanks -- sannse (talk) 14:03, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] IPA

Could you add the IPA pronounciation to Durian, perhaps? —Bunchofgrapes (talk) 23:56, 16 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] H. R. Giger

Hi, iBook, H. R. Giger needs the IPA badly, it seems. Would you care to add? Thanks! --BorgQueen 16:03, 19 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Wikproject Oregon

I would like to see some sort of collaboration or cohesion with respect to the Oregon Wikiproject so that we can see some sort of progress toward a goal. Please give suggestions on the talk page. PDXblazers 20:02, 8 April 2006 (UTC)

Hey it's Steven and I was wondering what subdivison would you say Medford is? Like as an example the subdivion type for DC is Federal District and the subdivion name District of Columbia. So please get back to me as soon as possible. --Steven91 00:03, 18 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Achromat Picture

Hi, Not sure what the action is here. I originated the achromatic focal curve, drew it myself based on typical achromat C-F color correction and typical green secondary spectrum. I said that it was originated by me (Mike Jones). I will certainly consider responding to your request once I understand what you've asked me to do. Walk me through it, OK?--Mike 22:29, 12 April 2006 (UTC)

P.S., Well, I kind of think I did what it wanted. Check?

[edit] Re: Image:Sabattini.jpg

Hi, I contacted the webmaster; but don't hold your breath, this may take some time. Goodbye. --OneEuropeanHeart 21:10, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] IPA

thanks for pointing out the current stylebook for pronunciation. I appreciate that. For Spokane, I agree, the IPA should be included and should be first. but I think the "spō-can" example should not be removed and I think it falls under the style guideline of "can include rhymes with, etc." thanks, Catherine --cda 19:46, 23 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] A belated hello

From one Oregonian to another. Do you have plans to attend OSCON next month? (Or will you even be in Oregon over the summer break?) I am in the process of organizing a BOF on Wikipedia for that, & would like to invite you to it. (And I've learned that you don't need to pay money to attend BOFs, so that shouldn't prevent you from attending.) -- llywrch 15:35, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
