Ian van der Wal (born September 22, 1971 in Darwin, Northern Territory, Australia) was an Australian sprint-middle distance freestyle swimmer, who represented Australia at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. He was a member of the 4x100m and 4x200m freestyle relay teams [1]. He trained at the Commercial Swimming Club in Brisbane [2].
In 1997, he competed at the 1997 Pan Pacific Swimming Championships in Fukuoka, where he combined with Michael Klim, Grant Hackett and Ian Thorpe to earn a silver medal in the 4x200m freestyle relay [3].
