Ian William Gouldstone

Ian William Gouldstone is a filmmaker and designer from in London, UK. His most recent animated film, "guy101", described internet dating. This film recently garnered the prize for short animation British Academy for Film and Television Award (BAFTA) in February 2007.[1]

From 1997-2001, Ian attended Harvard University. He graduated with an AB in Mathematics in 2001. While at Harvard, he worked on "Timber", a story about a logging, and "All Very Well and Good", a story about pedigree. He studied animation with Academy-Award nominee Wendy Tilby.

From 2001-2003, he worked as a designer and researcher at M.I.T.’s Media Lab in the Gesture and Narrative language group. He worked on the animated character, Sam, and worked on the characters appearance and programmed many of the gestural behaviors. He also worked on a concept video for the Tangible Media Group's comTouch project, about vibrotactile communication.

At that time, he also cofounded an animation group called Kewpon, made up of animators from the Cambridge, MA area.

In 2005, he graduated from the Royal College of Art (MA Animation 2005). While at the RCA, he worked on two short animations: 3.1 Corollary, and Wonderful.

From 2005-2006, he also worked as an animator at Sony Computer Entertainment, working on cut scenes for the European version of the Playstation2 game The Getaway: Black Monday.

Additionally, with the support of NESTA (the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts), Ian is the founder of “I W Gouldstone ltd” a media production company for resculpting organizational culture.

Guy 101 has won 5 other awards at Hull International Short Film Festival, Cinekink Festival's Best Narrative Short, Innovative Short Film Honorable Mention at the Seattle Lesbian and Gay Film Festival, Best Postgraduate Animated Film from the Royal Television Society Student Television Awards, and the Audience Award for Best Short at the Outtakes Film Festival.
