Charles Ian Fisher (born 1965) is an American journalist who has been the Rome bureau chief of The New York Times since 2004.
Fisher graduated from Boston University in 1987 and began his newspaper career at the Lowell Sun. In 1990, he joined The New York Times as a clerk and was promoted to reporter in 1992.
From 1998 to 2001, Fisher was the Times 's East Africa bureau chief (based in Nairobi, Kenya). He became the bureau chief for Eastern Europe and the Balkans in 2001.
In 2006, he also reported from Jerusalem.
