I Went Down is a 1997 Irish comedy crime caper film about ex-con Git Hynes, Peter McDonald who is fresh out of prison and walks himself straight into trouble on the day of his release from jail.
On Git's release from jail, he goes to meet his girlfriend Sabrina Bradly, Antoine Byrne, but she tells him that their relationship is off, as she is now dating his best mate Anto, David Wilmot. Git goes to confront Anto about this, but gets entangled in a "loan repayment" issue with local mobster, Tom French, Tony Doyle. Git rescues his friend Anto from a beating at the hands of the loan shark, but has to pay a price for this "interference".
As payback to the "interference", Tom French recruits Git to go to "down to Cork" to find his associate Frank Grogan, Peter Caffrey; his ex-partner in crime and bring him back to Dublin. This becomes a trip that pairs the reluctant Hynes with half-wit and heavy handed henchman, Bunny Kelly, Brendan Gleeson. On their way down to Cork, while bickering & dodging bullets, they encounter mayhem and discover each others' deepest secrets. Thus, an unlikely alliance forms between both men.
Tagline: "One doesn't count, the other can't. Dis-organised crime."
