I Should Have Cheated is Keyshia Cole's third single off her platinum-selling debut The Way It Is. After her first and second single's failure this single rose to Number 4 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and #30 on Billboard's Hot 100. The single is certified platinum. It made the top 5 on the 106 and Park and remained there for 46 days.
[edit] Song information
Members of the R&B group 112 Daron Jones & Quinnes Parker (Q) wrote the song, and Daron Jones was the one to produce it. This was one of Keyshia's favourite songs because she could personally relate to it the most. The song is about a girl who suspects her boyfriend of cheating, but he also accuses her of the same. Since she wasn't cheating, she thinks that she should have cheated.
[edit] Music Video
The video for this song features rapper Chink Santana. He plays Keyshia's boyfriend in the video. Keyshia is very suspicious that her boyfriend is cheating, because of various cell phone messages and movie stubs. When she confronts him, he claims that she is the one who is cheating. Since she was faithful in the relationship, Keyshia deems that she should have cheated.
[edit] Chart Positions
The single debuted at #85, and slowly moved up the charts. However, it was a success in the urban community, peaking at #4 in the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks. It peaked at #30 on the US Billboard Hot 100, which was a major success compared to her previous two singles. It also charted on the US Hot Dance Club Play at #11. It was released in the UK later on April 3, 2006 as a double A-side with I Changed My Mind.
