"I Shall Be There" was the sixth single to be released by Irish girl group B*witched and the second from their sophomore album Awake and Breathe. This song resulted from a quirky blend of musical and ethnic styles from two groups - African choir Ladysmith Black Mambazo and Irish girl group B*Witched. B*Witched's lead vocalist, Edele Lynch explained the pairing:

"We met them backstage at the BRIT Awards in 1999, and me and Keavy had been listening to a lot of their stuff, so we asked if they wanted to work with us, and when we came together in the studio it just all kind of fell into place and made for a really interesting experience."

It was B*Witched's first single not to make the UK Top 10 with a chart position of #13.
