The music was written by Don Robertson, the lyrics by Howard Barnes. The song was published in 1953.

The best-known version of the song was recorded by Les Paul and Mary Ford in 1953. It was also recorded by other artists such as Eddy Arnold. A version by Johnny Rodriguez included some Spanish language lyrics.

John Travolta sang the song in the 2004 movie A Love Song for Bobby Long.

The song was also included on Anne Murray's tribute-to-the-fifties album, Croonin'.
