"I Know You Got Soul" is a song by Eric B. & Rakim from their album Paid in Full. It was released as a single during the summer of 1987.
It contains samples of a number of songs, including one of the same name by Bobby Byrd, "You'd Like It Too" by Funkadelic, "The Grunt" by James Brown, "I Want You Back" by The Jackson 5, "Got To Be Real" by Cheryl Lynn, "Pussyfooter" by Jackie Robinson, "Ain't Nobody" by Rufus, "Ashley's Roachclip" by Soul Searchers, "Last Night Changed it All (I Really Had a Ball)" by Esther Williams, and "Greedy G" by the Brentford All-Stars.
"I Know You Got Soul" has been deemed one of the greatest rap songs of all time. Q Magazine ranked it atop their list of the 30 Best Hip Hop Songs [1] and a survey by Top40-Charts.com ranked it #67 on a similar list. [2]
James Brown is quoted as saying that this his favorite rap song.
Rolling Stone ranked it #386 on their list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. It is the duo's only song on the list.
