The movie focuses on Aubrey Fleming (Lindsay Lohan), a young woman who has been abducted and tortured by a serial killer but manages to flee. After being rescued, she is sent to the hospital for treatment. Once she regains consciousness in the hospital, she claims to be someone else, raising questions as to whether she is suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder or if something far more sinister is occurring.

- This is the third film in which Lohan has played two different characters, the first being in the remake of The Parent Trap where she played twins, Hallie Parker and Annie James, and the second being in the remake of Freaky Friday where she played a teenager and her mother.
- Filming was stalled in January 2007 when Lohan entered Rehab, but was resumed in February.
- Parts of the movie were filmed in the central California coast town of San Luis Obispo, California, where many locals (including Cal Poly students) were extras. The junior college used in the movie is in fact the local High School.
