I Hope I Shall Arrive Soon

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I Hope I Shall Arrive Soon is the name of an anthology of stories written by Philip K. Dick published in 1980.

It is also the name of a short story by Dick, published in that book about a man who regains consciousness during a failed attempt at cryosleep. The man was on a spaceship on a ten-year journey. The ship's artificial intelligence attempts to maintain his sanity throughout the ten-year voyage by causing him to recall memories from his 200 year long life. Like most of Philip K. Dick's work, it involves a questioning of what it is to be human and 'what is reality'. The story also has themes of guilt as the memories of the passenger are spoiled by the guilt he retains about actions he initiated during his 200 year life.

Originally the short story was issued December 1980 in Playboy titled Frozen Journey.
