"I Got 5 on It" is the title of a rap song by hip hop duo Luniz, taken from their album Operation Stackola. The song has become their most famous to date, and helped make Operation Stackola their best-selling album. The single was certified platinum by the RIAA on October 31, 1995 for individual sales of one million copies. It samples Club Nouveau's "Why You Treat Me So Bad" (1986). The remix to the song, which can be found on the CD single, featured an extensive list of artists from the Bay Area including Dru Down, E-40, Humpty Hump, Richie Rich, Shock G, and Spice 1.

[edit] Song meaning

According to the Urban Dictionary, 'I got 5 on it' has two common meaning: that the speaker 'has the situation under control' and the phrase is a drug reference that means that the speaker is due a portion of a marijuana stash, e.g. $5 worth. [1].

Addendum to the TRUE meaning of Five On It..."Five" is just that, $5. You and others would put "5 on it" until you have a minimum of $15.

Richie Rich's lyrics in the remix: "Put ya feve (feve = fever = five) with my fin (fin = ten), best believe we'll bend mo' corners than you thought, 'til somethin' right is bought". You can get a Twomp or Dub ($20 sack) for $15 most times.

Numskull's lyrics on the remix: "Like Nyquil, I drop fever, so either put your five up, or ya gots to leave it like Beaver. 'Cause see a N!gg@ perpin' broke will smoke ya spliff all day. Go home and buy big drinky with his pretty and parlay. I got five on the Hennessey, Seagrams or 40's..." ($5 can also be applied toward the purchase of alcohol if proper "purp" cannot be located)

Dru Down's lyrics in the remix: "You say you got five on my tenda, you can bend her over the table. But be sure bring my stallion back to my stable. Say, bruh...no elementary school ground playin'. Not a five dollar bill, But five double zero on the real, feel?" Ballers can say 5, and mean $500. In this verse, you can assume his "tenda" is a pimp's ho. Bringin her back to the stable, a stable is a 'ho house'. Five Double Zero = $500 for his ho.
