"I Changed My Mind" is the debut single from American R&B singer, Keyshia Cole. The song was chosen as the official first single off her platinum debut album, The Way It Is. The song was mildly successful, peaking at #71 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #23 on the R&B charts. There was a remix to the song that featured rapper Shyne, who was incarcerated. This version made its way to radio airplay format, while the video version does not have Shyne in it.

[edit] Song Information

Keyshia Cole wrote the song, and it was produced by producer/rapper Kanye West. The song also has background vocals by rising star at the time John Legend. As like most of her songs, Keyshia wrote this about an ex-boyfriend. As her boyfriend has another girl on the side, he doesn't pay attention to Keyshia. She finds out about her, and "changes her mind", that she doesn't want to be with anymore. She than goes on in the bridge, singing to him "I don't care if you come back to me on you knees, I just don't love you no more."

[edit] Music Video

The music video was shot in Keyshia's hometown, Oakland, California on June 30 & July 1 of 2004, as in the beginning you can see various screenshots of different places in the Bay Area. Keyshia has a boyfriend who she loves, but later finds out that he is cheating on her. She gets very upset, and is convinced by her friends to confront him. She leaves him, and is very happy that she left him. The video features Kanye West. It was first seen as the "New Joint" on BET's 106 & Park on August 13.

[edit] Chart Performance

"I Changed my Mind" was proven to be very popular, however it didn't perform as well as it was expected to on the charts. It debuted on the Hot 100 at an impressive #72, which is the highest debut of all her singles. It was the "greatest retail gainer" for 2 weeks. The song lingered in the bottom quarter of the Hot 100 for 2 months, only peaking at #71.
