"I Can't Forget the Melody" is a song from the Academy Award nominated score song of The Slipper and the Rose. It was written by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman and performed in the film by Gemma Craven as Cinderella. In the song a melancholy Cinderella longs for the happier times she shared with Prince Edward (Richard Chamberlain) whom she believes she can now never marry. The song uses many of the musical leit motifs of other songs heard earlier in the score including "He Danced With Me", "Secret Kingdom" and "Once I Was Loved". These musical reminders serve the story in demonstrating how Cinderella is haunted by her memory of the prince. She sings:

The love we shared
The dream we dared
Was just a prayer that can't come true...
