[edit] Biased edits
As far back as I can remember, I've always had an interest in mechanics, physics, biology, geology... pretty much every type of science. After graduating high school I immediately started taking college courses to learn more about each field I was interested in. A couple years later I started working as a tool and die maker and began taking night classes for my apprenticeship. At around the same time I started my apprenticeship program for tool and die, I began flight training taking classes for IFR, Airframe and Power plants, Navigation, Commercial Flight, and the basic ground school coursed for private pilot. After completing all my flight classes a couple years later, I finally gave in to the fact that I could never be a commercial pilot due to color blindness and never flew again. I continued on with my apprenticeship program which I eventually completed earning the title as a journeyman tool and die maker. Instead of becoming a pilot, I was fortunate enough to be involved in helping to create components for flight vehicles such as the Mars Pathfinder, International Space Station, and a few other vehicles for JPL, Boeing, NASA. Helping send things into space has definitely brought a lot of gratification to my travels in life but my fondest is being able to help create a cochlear implant for Advanced Bionics that allowed deaf children to hear. That was a bunch of years ago and I have studied and experienced many things since. I have continued to take college courses off and on for subjects I'm interested in over the past 17 years. It seems I can never stop creating and learning new things which at times is like a curse but has allowed me to accumulate enough books to keep me warm for a while if I ever run out of money to pay for the heating bill.
List of things I think I know about (and probably do) but someone will correct me on.
- Manufacturing: Grinding, milling, lathes, edm, extrude hone, lapping, cnc programming, inspection... just about everything related to manufacturing.
- Physics: Physics is my porno... Just need to get a handle on the math.
- Mechanics: Motors and machines of all types.
- Building and construction: I've single handedly built a home from the ground up (and is surprisingly still standing). Concrete, framing, electrical, pluming, roofing, etc.
- Business Management: Owner of a business for about 7yrs now.
- Programming: Java, C++, VB, PHP, JavaScript, sql, perl…I love to program.
- Computers: Started on an Apple IIe in grade school. I use Windows, Linux, and Unix operating systems.
- Servers: Big part of my job. Email, cache, web, database, etc.
- Real Estate and Notary Law: yawn
- Racing: Mostly motorcycles. Build them and race them. Have competed in many off-road races (Baja 1000) on a motorcycle. When I'm not racing I'll help with Honda pits.
- Automotive Mechanics
- Religion, Occult, and Magick: Do not choose any one over the other. Just found the subjects interesting when I was younger.
- Sailing: Mostly 30ft sloop
- Flight: Sore subject.
- Underwater diving: NAUI Certified in 1989.
- Environmentalism: Volunteer in my local national forest. More on the Conservation ethic side.
- Punk rock: Was in a punk band for a few years in the late 80’s last show was with a band called Chaos UK ...or was it with The Weirdos? Can’t remember.
- Body piercing and tattoos: Got a few in the 80’s and no more after. First tattoo at Leo Zulueta’s shop and first piercing at the Gauntlet by Elayne Angel.
- Guitar and drums: The punk rock thing
- Historic Preservation: The construction thing
- Homebrewing: Don’t drink anymore but brewing is still a good time.
- Firearms: From a mechanical and not killing standpoint as I have no desire to kill anything, Varmints included. Specialty is the AR15.
- Photography
- Horticulture
List of things I can care less about:
- Politics: worthless, never ending debates
- Religion: Oh, so yours is better eh...the never ending debate.
- Changing the world: See above. Everyone is on a freaking mission...let’s just get some work done.
- TV & Movies (Excluding Science fiction of course): Drop names and I won’t have a clue who you are talking about. Doesn’t matter how many scenes you re-enact.
