[edit] Lyrics

"I've Been Tired" describes a disjointed conversation between the singer and an unnamed woman in the first and second verses. The song then changes to describing another woman in the third and fourth verses, whose identity is hinted at as being the singer's mother, presenting her in a more than conventionally desirable way - it is obscure, but not the first time a Pixies song references incest. The song showcases Francis' eccentric sense of humour, and refers to the Velvet Underground singer, Lou Reed.

[edit] Performances

"I've Been Tired" is a concert regular and features in many of the Pixies' setlists, despite not one of their more notable songs. The song is included on the Pixies DVD (in a video of a 1988 concert), but is not included on the album Wave of Mutilation: Best of Pixies.[1]

[edit] Cover versions

"I've Been Tired" has been covered in numerous tribute albums, including New Retros in Hey: A Pixies Tribute, and the band Jonus in Death to the Pixies—We're Better!. Pearl Jam have also covered the song in concerts, although a recording has not been released.[2]

[edit] Other media

M. Night Shyamalan used the Come on Pilgrim version of the song for his film Unbreakable. The song plays in a comic book store that the near-catatonic Elijah Price trashes, much to the clerk's consternation.
