"I'm the One You Need" was the second single from Jody Watley's third album, Affairs of the Heart. After her previous single failed to make the US top 40, "I'm the One You Need" was pushed to Top 40 radio, and as a result because Watley's seventh Top 20 pop single in the US, and 6th Top five dance single.
