Hyundai INI Steel

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hyundai INI Steel, or INI (formerly known as Inchon Iron & Steel Co., Ltd.), is a steel company headquartered in Incheon and Seoul, Korea, established in 1977. Hyundai INI Steel is one of the major companies of the Hyundai-Kia Automotive Group.

Hyundai INI is one of the world's largest EAF steel producers. Currently, INI operates factories in Incheon, Dangjin, and Pohang. In addition to Hyundai INI, the Hyundai-KIa Autmotive group includes the steel companies, Hyundai Hysco (formerly known as Hyundai Steel Pipe Co., Ltd.) and BNG Steel Co., Ltd. (formerly Sammi Steel Co., Ltd.). Hyundai INI Steel uses the EAF process to manufacture steel while BNG and Hyundai Hysco are cold rolling mills. Hyundai INI has recently purchased the facilities of the now defunt Hanbo Steel in Tangjin and are planning to create Korea's second BOF steel mill to directly compete with the likes of POSCO (Pohang Iron & Steel). Once Hyundai INI completes it's BOF steel mill in Tangjin, the Hyundai-Kia Automotive Group will become the only car maker with an in-house steel mill to supply steel sheets for the production of automobiles.
