[edit] History

[edit] The Last Blade

Hyo's invlovement in the first Last Blade is somewhat ambiguous. As a carefree and fun-loving individual, Hyo has a strong love for sake, women, and the thrill of the fight. When he discovers the petals of the beautiful sakura trees falling from their branches, he goes into a panic and decides he must go defeat opponents to solve the "problem". In the end, he discovers it was only the changing of the seasons that resulted in the petals falling from the trees.

[edit] The Last Blade 2

After "discovering" the reasoning for the various petals falling from the trees, Hyo is devasated to discover that the sky turns a dreadful gray coloration (due to the happenings of a portal called the "Hell's gate). He draws his sword, but finds it oddly dulled and fragile. In order to fix it, he decides to inquire his friend Takane Genzou, a master swordsmith to fix it. However, Takane has passed away and he discovers he had a daughter (Hibiki Takane), who had recently departed the household. Concerned about his sword, he sets off to locate her.

[edit] Trivia

  • Amano's design is 95% faithful to the appearance of a minor villain early in the Rurouni Kenshin series.
  • His weapon is referred to as the "Otokomae" (男前), a word meaning "handsome man." Literally, it translates to "man front," and is a mild slang colloquialism for male genitalia. In The Last Blade 2, his unblockable attack involves him withdrawing a hidden sword from within his weapon and striking with it, adding another layer of innuendo to the character.
  • In both Last Blade games, Amano is the only character with an interactive ending: he asks whether the player is a man or a woman in both games, and can provide the URL for a hidden Last Blade site as well as the command for his special taunt in the second game depending on how the player answers the rest of his questions.
