Hydron (chemistry)

In chemistry, hydron is the general name for the positive hydrogen H+ cation.
It is used in a general context without regard to the nuclear mass, or to reflect ions formed from the naturally abundant hydrogen. It can alternatively be used specifically to distinguish the ion from heavier mass isotopes such as those formed from deuterium 2H+, D+ and tritium 3H+, T+. It was defined by IUPAC in 1988. [1]
The equivalent H- ion is termed the hydride anion.
