Hyalophagia, or hyalophagy, is the eating of glass, primarily as a pathological disorder. Highly dangerous to most humans, it is considered a form of pica. Hyalophagia forms a part of some circus acts.The reason it is so dangerous is because it will cut open the stomach and intestines and throat as it passes through the system

The word comes from Greek hyalos = glass + phagein = to eat.
