Huskvarna

Huskvarna (older spelling Husqvarna), in central southern Sweden, is a part of Jönköping Municipality that once was a City in Sweden but has grown together with Jönköping urban area to only be the name of a municipal district. It is situated on the south-east edge of Lake Vättern, and has a population of about 21,500 inhabitants.
A royal rifle manufacturer was established in Huskvarna in 1680 and lasted until 1757, wherafter it was sold to private owners. Rifle production continued to supply the Swedish and Norwegian armies (for example, in 1870 some 10,000 rifles were finished), but was later substituted with the production of sewing machines and bicycles. The company never changed the old spelling Husqvarna and are today an internationally known company with a variety of products.
The town Huskvarna received a charter in 1911, at which time it had some 5,500 inhabitants. The arms made for the occasion depict rifles and their ignition. A coalition with the city Jönköping was discussed but was not realized until the municipal reform of 1971.
