As Klaus was dissipating, a new cold low developed over Cuba and developed down to the surface as Tropical Depression Fifteen on October 9. 15 became Tropical Storm Marco at 600 UTC on October 10 and headed towards Florida, hugging the western coast and making landfall as a depression near Cedar Key, Florida. Marco rapidly lost strength over land but added to the heavy rainfall already brought to the south-eastern states by Klaus. Marco became extratropical at 1200 UTC on October 12 and absorbed on October 13.

Although only a tropical depression at final landfall, this was officially counted as a tropical storm hit on the USA as much of the circulation was on land in the area of St. Petersburg, Florida. 7 fatalities are attributed to Marco's high surf and flooding rains. He also caused $57 million in damage.

This storm also marked only the second time since naming began in the Atlantic in 1950 that the M name was used, the previous being Hurricane Martha in the 1969 season. Since the 1995 season, the 'M' name has been used almost every season, except the 1997, 1999 and 2002 seasons.
