Humanist officiant

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A humanist officiant is a type of a non-religious marriage officiant in Ontario, Canada. Humanist officiants are members of the Humanist Association of Canada (HAC). In 1996 the Government of Ontario granted the HAC permission to perform legally recognized marriages.

In addition, humanist officians perform non-religious funeral and naming ceremonies (which are not regulated by law).

Humanist officiants do not interfere into the rights of others to have any religious beliefs, however they stand against excesses in ceremonies and offer less burdensome alternatives.
