Human is the fourth album released by Death in 1991. It marked the beginning of a major stylistical change for Death. The actual sound of the album is much more technically accomplished and progressive than Death's previous strictly brutal efforts. The lyrics are now more introspective and meaningful as opposed to the gore based lyrics of the band's first two albums or the social commentary on Spiritual Healing. This new style would be more and more prevalent on all following Death albums.

Bass player Steve DiGiorgio left after the recording of this album (though he would later return to record Individual Thought Patterns). He was replaced by Skott Carino, who toured with the band in 1991-1992. Skott also recorded bass on Cosmic Sea.

This album was ranked number 82 on the October 2006 issue of Guitar World magazine's list of the greatest 100 guitar albums of all time.[1]

A music video was made for the song "Lack of Comprehension", which received some airplay on MTV.

The album is Death's bestselling, with sales of over 70,000 in the United States.[2]
