Hull Royal Infirmary

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hull Royal Infirmary is one of the two main hospitals for Kingston upon Hull (the other being Castle Hill Hospital in nearby Cottingham). It is situated on Anlaby Road, just outside of the city centre, and is run by Hull & East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust.

The site is dominated by a 13-floor high tower block which houses the majority of the wards, as well as the Intensive care unit, pharmacy, laboratories and canteen. A 4 floor building directly connected to the back of this tower block houses the Emergency department and Accute Admissions Unit, the High dependency unit, and radiology, as well as the Operating theatres and most of the hospital's outpatient facilities. There are a number of other buildings on the site, which include the old brick buildings to the back of the hospital (the old Kingston General Hospital, which now mostly houses wards for elderly patients), the mortuary building, various laboratory and office buildings and several other buildings containing wards and other patient facilities. The site is shared by the Hull & East Yorkshire Womens and Childrens Hospital and the Hull & East Yorkshire Eye Hospital.
