Talk:Hugo Kelly
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I think this page is a valuable insight into the mind of that sleeping giant of Australia's media scene, Master Hugo Kelly.--Jack Upland 02:54, 31 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Possible improvements
In line with the aim of reducing the chattiness of the existing article, I propose the following alterations:
- "boozy" to be replaced by "incessantly inebriated"
- "keen team of young talent" to become "assortment of youths with apparent potential"
- "Rubbing shoulders" to become "mingling convivally"
- "bubbly" to become "sparking wine".
I hope these go some way to introducing the necessary encyclopedic tone.
Incidentally, I don't agree that this article is an autobiographical act of vanity: in fact, the achievements listed are quite paltry. Where are the early intimations of genius? The details of prominent Australian expatriates whom Kelly inspired to take up self-imposed exile? Etc, etc.--Jack Upland 03:22, 8 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Re: suggested changes
Surely given that it was in France, we can refer to the sparkling wine as champagne?
- Do we have a citation to say that it was in fact champagne that wasn't spilt?--Jack Upland 04:40, 16 January 2006 (UTC)
You know I can get one if you really think it necessary! SunKingISunKingI
Maybe one of the people who asked for more citations should confirm that.--Jack Upland 06:54, 18 January 2006 (UTC)
Perhaps so - it's clearly an important distinction, and we should make sure we get these details correct. This is an encyclopaedia after all, not a self-indulgent autobiographical vanity page! SunKingI 23:38, 18 January 2006 (UTC)
Exactly. We don't want the schoolkids getting the wrong info.--Jack Upland 01:56, 20 January 2006 (UTC)
Yes, quite - we would never mislead the school kiddies. And I can't believe someone added the following to the hobbies section "Another lowlight of an unremarkable career was this attempt to inflate it by creating his own Wilkipedia entry, above." - although it was luckily immediately removed. I am not Hugo. Hugo is not me. Why would anyone think I am Hugo?? I'm half a foot shorter than him, and much prettier. Well, a little prettier. SunKingI 04:26, 23 January 2006 (UTC)
Well, that's the great thing about Wikipedia: any silliness is promptly dealt with.--Jack Upland 19:41, 23 January 2006 (UTC)
Well, most silliness is promptly dealt with! I must say we're having some fun with this - we thought we might start work on Christian's entry tomorrow. SunKingI 00:09, 25 January 2006 (UTC)
Well, I'll keep an eye out for any nepotism... By the way, it's a good thing you cleared up the fact that you are much/a little prettier than Hugo now that the photo of Hugo's in the article!--Jack Upland 07:37, 25 January 2006 (UTC)
As Christian is also neither our sister-in-law nor our nephew, it should be pretty safe. And I (writing in the first person rather than our combined SunKing persona just for a second) am in the photo as well, so you can judge for yourself. We didn't get around to starting on Christian though. 134.159.131.34 23:35, 29 January 2006 (UTC)
That is remarkably good news about Christian and I must concur with your earlier expressed sentiments vis-a-vis the relative appearance of the different personae.--Jack Upland 09:08, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
Thanks Mr Upland. I have now created my own wiki persona, mainly as I can't remember the password the Sun King and I picked... ah well. HighPriestess of the PDRGI 08:33, 31 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] We're talked about folks
"That said, there's plenty of inaccurate spin in his account of Crikey's history today. Firstly, to suggest he "co-founded" Crikey is laughable, although it's a myth repeated in the expansive multi-volume Wikipedia entry he wrote about himself."
What's the go here? - Ta bu shi da yu 14:48, 16 February 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah, this is what caused me to add the autobiography templates above and corresponding entry in Wikipedia:Wikipedians with articles. Mark Hurd 16:11, 16 February 2006 (UTC)
Excuse me, but I am NOT Hugo Kelly - most of the original article was written by me, from an interview I did with Hugo, which is on my blog - http://bekk.blogspot.com/2005_12_01_bekk_archive.html - Mayne's allegation that Hugo wrote his own entry is entirely false, and possibly defamatory. Both the autobiographical templates above were ME - Bek - and NOT Hugo. HighPriestess of the PDRGI 04:00, 17 February 2006 (UTC)
- OK, I've removed the IP address template too. (Ta bu shi da yu removed the other one.) For the moment, I've left the other autobiography stuff for others to review.
- Note you need to verify you've assigned copyright on your blog entry. Mark Hurd 12:35, 19 February 2006 (UTC)

- Unfortunately, your highness, it was your choice of the nom de guerre "The Sun King" that made all of us think of Hugo Kelly. Naturally.--Jack Upland 09:14, 20 February 2006 (UTC)

- Rather than, say Louis XIV of France? Understandble confusion, Hugo is also quite radiant.HighPriestess of the PDRGI 23:41, 21 February 2006 (UTC)

And like the Bourbons, he says, "Apres moi, le deluge".--Jack Upland 04:43, 3 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Crikey
I know it may still be hard to be NPOV, but Kelly's story should include something about Crikey, if not any detail about his termination. Mark Hurd 13:16, 19 February 2006 (UTC)
How can you not mention Crikey's termination?--Jack Upland 09:15, 20 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] More tags...
Why has this been tagged for notability again? There was already a whole discussion when the article first went up and everyone decided he was notable! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by HighPriestess of the PDRGI (talk • contribs) 00:17, 25 January 2007 (UTC).
