Hughe Knatchbull-Hugessen

Sir Hughe Montgomery Knatchbull-Hugessen KCMG (26 March 1886 – 21 March 1971) was a British diplomat and author.

The son of Reverend Reginald Bridges Knatchbull-Hugessen and Rachel Mary Montgomery, he was educated in Eton College in Berkshire, and Balliol College, Oxford, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in 1907.

Knatchbull-Hugessen was British Ambassador to China in 1936 and 1937, Ambassador to Turkey from 1939 to 1944. Between 1944 and 1947, he was Ambassador to Berlin and Minister to Luxemburg. In 1936, he was made a Knight Commander of the Order of St Michael and St George (KCMG).

On 16 July 1912, he married Mary Gilmour, daughter of Brigadier Robert Gilmour. They had three children, one son and two daughters.
