Hugh Geoghegan

The Honourable Mr Justice Hugh Geoghegan (born 1938) has been a justice of the Supreme Court of Ireland of Ireland since March 8, 2000.
He was appointed a justice of the High Court in 1992. He has the special distinction of being the first son of a Supreme Court judge to follow in his fathers footsteps. His father James Geoghegan was a Fianna Fáil Teachta Dála representing Longford Westmeath from 1930 to 1937 and he also served as Minister for Justice, Attorney General as well as Supreme Court judge.
His father-in-law Thomas Finlay is a former Chief Justice (1985 - 1994). His wife Mary Finlay Geoghegan became, in 2002, one of three women appointed a judge of the High Court of Ireland
