Hugh Findlay, born in 1822 in New Milns, Ayrshire, Scotland, was one of the first two Mormon missionaries to enter India.

Hugh was baptized in the 1840s by missionaries from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as a district president in England and was called to serve in South Asia by Lorenzo Snow, who later served as fifth president of the Church.

Hugh arrived at Poona in April 1852, seeking to build on reports from early members of the Plymouth Brethren that India would be a fertile ground for proselytization. However, he and his fellow missionaries found little success in India. He served in Poona and Bombay for several years, most of it alone.^[1]

After his mission, Hugh emigrated to the United States, where he helped settle Riverdale, Utah. He made a living by manufacturing matches and, beginning in 1858, by serving as the town's first school teacher.^[2]

Hugh later served as the Bishop in Fish Haven, Idaho, where he died in 1900.
