[edit] Award

The school received a national award for it's 2005 news cast. The news is a big part of Huffines, and the report is called: "Channel 39 News." It includes a lead and a sports report. Much of the news reporters (selected/auditioned students) appeared on Channel 1 with their opinion on school safety, during the 2006 first semester. There is a new cast each semester, and the class, called Audio Tech is open only to 8th graders (recently an exceptional 7th grader joined) who are recommended by teachers and who are passing classes. An LISD article stated: "Huffines Middle School's Channel 39 News was named #1 Middle School Newscast by Channel One Network/Channel One News. Huffines teacher Cary Gifford and his students were very excited about receiving the honor in this nation-wide contest..."
